Addressing the Myths

Doesn’t run on the same hardware of Windows Server
Cannot add additional servers in an Windows SBS domain
I can’t use the tools that I know from Windows Server in Windows SBS
The Exchange Server limit is too small
I can’t run Terminal Services in the Windows SBS domain
The line of business application I depend on isn’t supported on Windows SBS
I don’t feel comfortable upgrading my current Windows Server
I’m going to outgrow Windows SBS
Windows SBS doesn’t scale for a large number of users (e.g. more than 15 PCs)
Windows SBS doesn’t have the full version of the server applications

- 5.30pm: Arrivals & nibblies (buffet provided with tea & coffee)

- 6.00pm: Welcome

- 6.05pm: Introductions (name, company, focus & what you want to get out of the user group)

- 6.30pm: Update on SBSC plans

- 7.00pm: Open forum discussion around the best way to go forward (what you want the group to be, set-up monthly schedule, encourage use of the Yahoo website etc)

- 7.30pm: Any other business (normally develops into a tech discussion with pros & cons of something or other – AV vendors, SP1 installs etc)

- 8.00pm: Close

Microsoft is about to launch in the UK, a new Small Business specialism, to recognise partners who understand implementing technology solutions in small businesses.

Vigence has met the criteria and is now a Microsoft Small Business Specialist.

Vigence has a number of customers who use Small Busines Server and we aim to build on this base going forwards especially with the new Small Business Edition of Microsoft CRM 3.0

I am a big fan of SBS and we run on SBS ourselves internally and approximately half our CRM customers are running on SBS.

Microsoft CRM and SBS work extremely well together and Microsoft is offering a very attractive package for the first 15 Sales CRM users when you use CRM with SBS. For instance, we can now supply, install and configure a 5 user CRM solution for less than £5,000.

ACT2005 and SBS

Interesting post from the SBS Diva on incompatibilities in the new version of ACT! with Small Business Server.

It appears that ACT2005 is not compatible with SBS. Given that ACT is targeted at exactly the same market as SBS this is huge own goal for Sage/Best and I am looking forward to migrating more ACT! users onto Microsoft CRM.
