I was a beta tester for Windows Home Server which was released last month and is now available both as OEM and as pre-built systems

My own WHS is running on a Dell PowerEdge SC420 which although not as nice as the Tranquil PC or HP Media Smart Home Server dedicated systems does the job of backing my home PCs and my MediaCenter as well as storing all my pictures and other files making them available over the web.

Microsoft Reorganises

Microsoft has announced a reorganisation into three divisions. For those interested in CRM, the Business Solutions group has merged with Information Worker to form the Microsoft Business division.

For CRM I can see little impact given that much of the most recent changes have been to integrate more deeply with Office and this integration is only going to go further with Sharepoint and Windows Workflow Foundation.

I am still not sure what to make of this and in particular how it affects the Microsoft CRM product. So in the meantime there are more questions than answers and more speculation than substance.

CRM 2005 Delayed

Microsoft have delayed the release of CRM 2005 until the end of this year. The reasons given are to add functionality requested by customers and partners. Among the features customers and partners requested were:

Code to simplify the installation of the product for small businesses.
Improved "workflows," especially in the areas of marketing- and service-automation.
More exposed application programming interfaces (APIs), making it easier for developers to build applications that embed and/or ride atop Microsoft CRM.

I am torn on this as I want CRM 2005 to be a knock out and what we saw during Alpha testing was very encouraging but this delay is very frustrating.
