The Sage Line 50 integration we wrote for CRM 3.0 and which can be downloaded from CodePlex will not install under CRM 4.0 as the custom entities used cannot be imported into 4.0.

As to whether the integration will work if you install it under 3.0 and upgrade to 4.0 then I suspect it will work but I have not had chance to test it yet.

I am pleased to announce a free utility I am making available to readers of this blog.

One of the problems our customers face that when using a shortcut to http://<crmserver> to start the CRM browser Microsoft CRM will open up in one of the existing Internet Explorer windows losing whatever you were doing at the time. This utility ensures that this doesn't happen by removing an issue that users have with MSCRM. When using this utility to start CRM it will always open Microsoft CRM in a new window.

When installed it will automatically start CRM browser when you log in and add an icon to the System Tray. To access CRM at any time just double click on the icon.

This is a cut down version of the utility which has many other functions such as alerts, telephone integration and office integration.

Free MSCRM Addons

Good talking today to a customer about the range of Addons as they have become known for Microsoft CRM. These Addons are function extensions to Microsoft CRM ranging from simple popups through to quite sophisticated groups of screens and functionality.

What was found hard to understand was the cost of some addons. The price/functionality ratio of many addons does not compare favourably with MSCRM itself and can appear to be excessive especially when the vendors insist on one licence for each MSCRM user even though not all users will use the Addon. Also the quality of some is less than I would expect.

I think what is hard for some people is that the functionality in some of these Addons should really be in the base product and have difficultly paying twice! This is not to say that there are not some very good Addons which are worth the money for some customers.

The better Addon vendors are providing free Addons as showcases for their other products e.g.:
